Do you know that you can use blend modes in Photoshop to brighten/darken, add contrast and perform high-end retouching in a much more advanced fashion? In this video, we are going to learn how to use blend modes with adjustment layers to obtain the most advanced effects non-destructively. This is the second part of the video “Photoshop Blending Modes Explained”. If you have not watched it yet, watch it here: https://youtu.be/zGTbOfhyXnA
First off, we are going to look at how to use blend modes to do very essential and fundamental stuff like brightening or darkening the image and adding contrast and understand what happens when. Then we are going to look at how to use these methods in real world scenarios. For example, since, Multiply darkens things, we can use it to bring back the details in the clouds.
Then, we’ll learn the most common way to do it and explain why that is wrong. Hence, we will figure out a solution in which we will eventually use adjustment layers with blend modes. This will solve two crucial problems for us that we’ll discuss in the video.
This video is an introduction to how you can just use blending modes to do the some of the most advanced image processing
like bringing out the details in highlights and shadows manually and increasing contrast selectively.
At the end of the video, as a bonus, I’m also going to show you how to get that desaturated grunge effect with blending modes that you normally see in sports pictures. Hope this video helps you, and if you have any questions, make sure to leave them down in the comments below. Thanks for watching!
